These expanded landscapes emerge from experiments in pigment staining, pulp‑pouring, painting with pulp, and collage on pre‑formed sheets of paper. By breaking paper down and rebuilding it from its own elemental components, I treat the medium as both subject and collaborator. The process became a meditative release, a blank canvas with no predetermined image or narrative. Such freedom can feel vast, even disorienting, until the work itself begins to speak.

The words of poet and artist Etel Adnan serve as a guide: “You make a mark, and the mark creates a situation, and this situation calls for other gestures.” I began each work with a single red circle, perhaps a sun, perhaps simply a first gesture, which set the conditions for these unfolding landscapes.

Ultimately, these works reflect my belief in experimentation as a generative force. They are reminders that joy can arise from material play, from trusting process, and from letting the work lead.
